We are one of the internet's most respected sites for people suffering from back pain and other common types of musculo-skeletal pain We’re dedicated to assisting people world-wide to work out the cause of their pain and providing them with the strength and flexibility exercises they need to do to fix it themselves.

We believe that by treating the cause of the pain, and not just the symptoms, there’s a good chance that poor function will be restored to good and the pain will go away. In that respect we believe the strength and flexibility exercises we recommend are the foundation of any treatment for musculo-skeletal pain and are more likely to permanently relieve pain than treatments that involve cremes, crunches, rub downs, ice packs, heat pads, vibrators, electric shocks, scalpels, gadgets and piles of pills.

We take the view that for a high proportion of people, musculo-skeletal pain is a fitness problem generated by weak and tight muscles. It is not a medical problem. It’s why the millions of people who have taken the medical and allied medical route are still in pain. You can’t solve a fitness problem with a medical solution.

The Director of Global Back Care is physical educator, John Miller, a graduate in Physical Education, Education and Arts and a qualified fitness practitioner. It is because of that background that he brings a new perspective to the natural treatment of musculo-skeletal pain.

About John Miller

I started my professional life as a PhysEd teacher and am currently a corporate health, fitness and wellbeing consultant and seminar presenter. In past lives I’ve been the National Executive Director of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER), the Director of the South Australian Recreation Institute and Manager of the Australian Institute of Sport's Health Management Centre. I’ve run my own boutique fitness centre, ‘Fit and Healthy’ at the Australian Institute of Sport and in the Canberra suburb of Macquarie.

The Global Back Care program emerged from the years spent running ‘Fit and Healthy’, where I designed the program to help people with lower back and other musculo-skeletal pain. I worked out that a high proportion of musculo-skeletal pain is a fitness problem, not a medical problem. As people became stronger and looser their pain went away.

A big stimulus in the development of the Global Back Care program was the need to work out the cause of my own back pain and fix it. You can read that story in other places on this website and in the Fix Pack Pain ebook.

My work is directed toward inspiring and motivating people to keep themselves fit and healthy to the best of their ability, and encouraging them to open the doors of perception about what they can do to keep themselves in good shape.

I believe it's a big ask expecting to stay healthy without keeping yourself fit and that it's an even bigger ask expecting to get better by having someone do something to you. Sooner or later you have to do something to yourself.

I’m a critic of selective-evidence, pharmaceutically based medicine which continues to narrow the perception of just how physically fit people need to be to successfully navigate the rapids of poor health.

I hold to the optimistic view that there is a good chance that doing the exercises in the Global Back Care Program will go a long way toward relieving musculo-skeletal pain. In fact I’ll go as far as to say that for 80% of people there is an 80% chance that they can fix themselves up to the point where function is restored to 80% of normal - in 80 days.

Most people with musculo-skeletal dysfunction do not have a regular and systematic strength and flexibility training program. So, if you strengthen weak muscles and loosen tight muscles there is a good chance your body will get back into better alignment and pain free.
